December 5, 201884% of companies carry out a multicloud strategy, according to a survey developed by 45 Research commissioned by NTT and Dell EMC. This study shows that among the main reasons why organizations opt for multicloud environments include aspects such as speed, cost and agility.
But, what is a multicloud strategy? It is a cloud approach composed of more than one cloud computing service, provided by more than one provider of cloud computing, public or private. Some of the advantages that it has are the optimization of the costs, the agility and the mitigation of risks in computer security.
Cloud Broker
Another study, based on a survey of 727 managers in charge of decision-making regarding the cloud who work for companies with more than 1,000 employees, suggests that the majority of the respondents who answered, 86%, say that their strategy is currently multicloud. In addition, 60% of these companies say that they have already moved their critical applications to the public cloud or are in it. The study, Multicloud Arises from Changing Cloud Priorities, was prepared by Forrester Consulting for the Dell Technologies subsidiary Virtustream. Vistustream vice president of product and technology, Deepak Patil, explains: “Multicloud is a clear reality of what the next era of cloud computing will be like. Whether it is used to balance risk or to take advantage of the advantages and use cases of various platforms in the cloud, companies are increasingly shifting their workloads to multiple cloud providers. ” This makes reference to the Cloud Broker, the figure that will allow to obtain the maximum benefits proposed by this scenario. Among the final objectives of the Cloud Broker is to build a set of services as specific as possible, adding or integrating a significant layer of value to the services that are offered as standard.
Advantage
The figures presented above contrast with what Spain is concerned about: “only 10% of European companies have a multicloud strategy,” according to an IDC report about Cloud Computing. However, the perception is that it is the way to go. So we must remember the main advantages of establishing a multicloud strategy:
- Efficiency in the use and expense of technology: consumption models are encouraged as a service, so an organization pays only for those resources that it actually consumes and also has the possibility of month to month deciding if its infrastructures should grow or decrease with respect to the last month.
- Centralization centralized management facilitates the integration of different resources and provides a single view for all distributed resources.
In short, multicloud management is now, let’s not talk about digital transformation because it has already arrived and now it is time to perfect it, adapt it and innovate more in the Cloud.
